The annual fall What the Fluff? Festival is being held this weekend in Massachusetts, home of the iconic Marshmallow Fluff. The sweet and sticky key ingredient of the “Fluffernutter” sandwiches you’re probably still making for your kids was created in the kitchen of Archibald Query in 1917, and then later manufactured by candy entrepreneurs H. Allen Durkee and Fred L. Mower. It’s the perfect reminder that innovation comes in all flavors. This week, the channel serves up its own sweet mix of product launches, new partner programs, the latest integrations, and some stark insights into the rising cybersecurity threats your SMB clients face.
So dive in below for all the channel developments you need to know about, without the fluff (you can save that for your sandwich).

N-able Adds Anomaly Detection as a Service to Backup Protection
IT management and data protection platform vendor N-able has added Anomaly Detection as a Service (ADaaS) to Cove Data Protection, its SaaS-based backup and recovery solution.
Called Honeypots, the ADaaSis an always-on defense mechanism designed to detect brute-force attacks and unauthorized access on the backup infrastructure, giving MSPs and IT organizations time to respond and quarantine the threat, preventing scenarios where recovery may be impossible, according to N-able.

“The service looks for suspicious patterns (e.g., API calls) that fall outside of what we would consider ‘normal’ backup operations. To do that we use proprietary heuristics. Honeypots, basically trip wires, are one of several techniques allowing N-able to spot suspicious behavior,” explains Stefan Voss, head of product for Cove Data Protection. “This is our early warning system.”
N-able built ADaaS into Cove’s architecture, so there is no additional management overhead or cost impact, according to the company. It does not eliminate the need for MDR for the rest of your infrastructure, Voss notes.
Cyberattacks on backup infrastructure represent “a huge problem and it’s an obvious one, because if you’re a bad actor, you’re going to want to take out my ability to recover because then it’s going to be more likely that you’re going to get the ransom paid,” Voss explains.
There are three primary attack vectors bad actors exploit, says Voss. These are: data manipulation, configuration changes, and brute-force attacks, “so somebody actually going after your backup infrastructure itself.” He adds, “They’re going to delete your VMs if they have access to the infrastructure that your backup runs on.”
Honeypots is the first in a series of anomaly detection capabilities coming, Voss says.
Channel Program Launches 365 Scout
Channel Program, a platform that provides product reviews, market research, and tools for MSP businesses, introduced BetterTracker + 365 Scout for MSPs. Together, the solutions unites what’s paid for (every contract, subscription, and expense) with what’s actually used across Microsoft 365. The result is complete visibility into spend and usage, so you can eliminate surprises, close security gaps, and boost profitability, according to Channel Program.
365 Scout plugs directly into Microsoft 365 and automatically scans, identifies, and exposes the waste and risks inside Microsoft 365 environments, giving MSPs the visibility to: stop cash leaks from unused subscriptions, expose shadow, and right-size licenses to protect margins.
Arctic Wolf Enhances Threat Intelligence Plus to Help Organizations Stay Ahead of Adversaries
Arctic Wolf introduced a new capability for Arctic Wolf Threat Intelligence Plus that allows organizations to consume Arctic Wolf threat intelligence within their existing investigation and analysis platforms, SIEM tools, and threat intelligence platforms, enabling unified threat hunting and incident response workflows.
Threat Intelligence Plus customers can now automatically deploy Arctic Wolf’s curated threat intelligence as preventative controls across security tools that support STIX/TAXII standards, including firewalls, email security gateways, endpoint protection platforms, and network security appliances.
The threat feed contains the same indicators of compromise (IoCs) actively used by Arctic Wolf’s SOC for managed detection and response.
The newly enhanced threat feed feature is available exclusively to Threat Intelligence Plus subscribers.

Syncro Launches Cloud Backup and Restore for Microsoft 365 and Entra ID

Syncro today expanded its platform capabilities into the identify security arena and deepened its foray into the Microsoft world with the introduction of Syncro Cloud Backup, an integrated backup and restore solution for Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. The vendor says the new service helps MSPs and IT teams protect users and identities and ensure rapid recovery from data loss or identity threats.
“Identity is really the new security perimeter and Syncro Cloud backup is the first line of defense and the last line of defense,” says Michael George, Syncro CEO.
Syncro Cloud Backup follows on the heels of Syncro’s announcement of XMM in April, which integrated Microsoft 365 multitenant management with its RMM and PSA into a unified platform. XMM also integrates with Microsoft Secure Score, Defender Antivirus, and Entra ID, and automates Microsoft 365 compliance monitoring, security hygiene, and risk assessments.

By the Numbers
Small Business Cyberattacks Are Surging
New research from cybersecurity company Guardz uncovers a dramatic escalation in the number of cyberattacks targeting SMBs, based on threat intelligence gathered directly from the Guardz customer base.
The Guardz Mid-Year 2025 SMB Threat Report finds that SMBs faced nearly twice as many weekly incidents in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
Other key findings include:
- Nearly 100 types of ransomware detections were logged among SMBs in the first half of 2025. Many pair encryption with data theft for extortion, while one-quarter of breaches now involve data theft alone, in favor of pure extortion.
- Credential-focused attacks rose the most across all attack types, withover 80% of breaches involving stolen or compromised passwords. This class of attacks included password spraying, credential stuffing, MFA bypass, legacy authentication abuse, and account takeover.
- Phishing accounted for 1,876 incidents, while 1,423 business email compromise scams were recorded. Generative AI has increased the believability of phishing messages, according to Guardz.
- Password attacks on cloud accounts spiked tenfold, targeting cloud login portals. Microsoft 365 environments saw 3,042 attacks, with Outlook/Exchange alone making up 41% of cases. Google Workspace apps were targeted with 2,335 attacks, led by phishing (38%) and OAuth app abuse (18%).
No Business Too Small to Target
“The first half of 2025 has been a stark reminder of just how quickly the cyber threat landscape is evolving. For many SMBs, this reality has been eye-opening: attacks have skyrocketed exponentially and are more sophisticated and damaging than ever before,” said Dor Eisner, CEO and co-founder of Guardz, in a press statement. “The message is clear – no business is too small to be a target. Hackers are going after SMBs with the same force as large enterprises, but these businesses often lack enterprise-level defenses. That’s why it’s so important for SMBs to adopt solutions that make it simple to manage, detect, and respond to threats, with MSPs providing the expertise and proactive support necessary to stay secure and resilient.”
